Students aged 14-19 and adult learners can now improve their chances of employment by taking a range of newly accredited WorkSkills qualifications online at www.vision2learn.com and www.vision2learnforschools.com, developed by Creating Careers.

From September 2008, a selection of 30 ready-for-work modules from ‘Preparing for an Interview’, to ‘Working in a Team’ and ‘Preparing for Work Placement’ will be available to learners online. WorkSkills enables learners to achieve a range of BTEC qualifications.

The WorkSkills qualifications have been developed by Edexcel, the UK’s largest awarding body. Learners studying through e-learning services vision2learn and vision2learn for schools can ‘pick and mix’ effectively from the broad selection of work-focused modules to build a flexible, personal course of study, which meets their individual needs.

Learners can select the right combination of online Units for them with Advice and Guidance from their tutor or teacher, log on to interactive, engaging online study sessions, communicate with peers, tutors or teachers online, reflect on their experiences, send assessment work through an internal messaging system and store evidence in a personal e-portfolio. Teachers and tutors can track and manage learner progress efficiently online and use comprehensive online teaching resources to assess learners’ work.

Flexibility is fundamental to the design of WorkSkills and Creating Career’s online solution underpins this focus. Neil Moult, Chief Executive of Creating Careers said the demand for WorkSkills is clear, with secondary schools and colleges registering an interest for up to 200,000 learner places. “Working with Edexcel to deliver WorkSkills is a really exciting opportunity for us. Both UK and international employers are looking for individuals who can demonstrate the kind of personal skills, attitudes and behaviours needed to succeed in the workplace. WorkSkills is the first to offer learners a unitised route to achieving a completely personalised qualification. By delivering it online, we are helping to open up the programme to e-learners worldwide, enabling the UK workforce to be at the forefront of work-related skills learning and development.”

Trevor Luker, Edexcel’s UK Education Commercial Director said: WorkSkills demonstrates our joint commitment to providing broad opportunities for learners outside of the traditional academic route. We firmly believe that it will help improve employability skills across the UK workforce.”

The Edexcel WorkSkills suite delivered on vision2learn and vision2learn for schools will initially consist of over 30 stand-alone units at Level 2, with plans to develop over 80 modules at Entry Level 3 through to Level 2. Each of the Level 2 units will take between 10 and 20 hours to complete, with learners able to tailor-make them into a BTEC Award, Certificate or Diploma. The modules also can be slotted flexibly into existing curriculum timetables for learners already studying for BTECs, GCSEs, Diplomas, NVQs and other recognised courses.
